Happy Monday ladies!
And I say happy Monday because we are reclaiming that too, Mondays no longer suck! it's all about perspective and we control the narrative.
In November 2025 I attended a charity event organised by an incredible networking group that I’m proud to be a part of: Empowered Women Empower Women . The event was raising support for The Women’s Lighthouse, an initiative close to my heart. It was during this event that the stunning Kristie and I met for the first time. Fast forward a few months down the line she reached out asking for a few lifestyle portraits of herself and her son to use for her business website.
When she told me what she does, it completely hit home for me. As a neurodivergent mother raising neurodivergent children, I knew instantly how vital this mission is. But if we are being completely real? Real life isn't a fairy tale, and stepping into a photoshoot can feel incredibly overwhelming.
There is a common assumption that neurodivergent people automatically just "click" and feel instant comfort, but the truth is, meeting someone new and being in front of a camera takes time, energy, and a lot of trust. And that is more than okay!
As a photographer working through the female gaze, my job isn't to force my own agenda or rush the rhythm; it's to hold a safe space. We took things gently, moving at whatever pace felt right for her. For me, photography is about collaboration and sometimes that means following a client's lead until they feel settled.
The most beautiful shift happened when we stepped outside into the fresh air. Sometimes a change of environment is exactly what our nervous systems need. The open air gave us all room to just breathe, and that’s when the true magic of their connection naturally unfolded.
What is Neurodiverse Services?
Once the nerves settled, the heart behind Kristie's business, Neurodiverse Services, truly shone through. She provides genuine, judgment-free support for families navigating the exact type of overwhelm we worked through during our session. To give you a taste of her mission, here is an extract from one of her posts:
"Our support is open to both neurotypical and neurodivergent clients, those with or without a diagnosis. Why? We know how long it can take to get a diagnosis! Whatever your situation, you are welcome here, with no judgement."
Whether someone is fully diagnosed, navigating the painfully long waiting lists, or simply a family member trying to understand a loved one better, Kristi creates a safe space for them to land.
Getting to create imagery to support Kristie’s mission was an absolute privilege, but the true highlight of the session for me was witnessing her deep devotion to both her vision and her family.
And oh my goodness, her son is pure magic! He has this wonderfully magnetic energy and a confidence that clearly shines from growing up in a safe, understanding, and supportive household—a space where he is encouraged to thrive and have his needs met with love and compassion. It is just beautiful to witness.
Once we found our rhythm, we captured soulful lifestyle portraits that tell a real, honest story. I am proud to know that these images will live on her website, standing alongside her as she helps other families find the exact same warmth and support they need.
